Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? That’s understandable. Eagle Crest Stockyard was created to help local buyers and ranchers connect more easily, beginning in Northern Idaho and built to support local livestock communities. Below are answers to some of the questions people ask most often.

For Buyers

What is Eagle Crest Stockyard?

Eagle Crest Stockyard helps connect local livestock buyers with local ranchers and sellers. Buyers can browse available livestock, learn about animals, and let ranchers know when they are interested. Ranchers then contact buyers directly to coordinate details.

Do I buy animals directly from Eagle Crest Stockyard?

No. Eagle Crest Stockyard helps connect buyers and ranchers, but livestock is sold directly by the rancher or seller. Final arrangements happen between the buyer and rancher. Eagle Crest Stockyard simply helps connect the two.

Does Eagle Crest Stockyard handle payments?

No. Eagle Crest Stockyard does not process payments for livestock purchases. Buyers and ranchers work out payment details directly.

What happens after I tell a rancher I’m interested?

Once you express interest in a listing, the rancher is notified and will contact you directly. From there, you can ask questions, discuss availability, and work out pickup and other necessary arrangements.

Why do I need an ECS account?

Accounts help ECS create a better experience for both buyers and sellers. They help reduce spam, improve communication, and allow ranchers to contact interested buyers directly.

Why does ECS ask for my phone number and email?

Your contact information helps ranchers communicate directly with you and allows Eagle Crest Stockyard to contact you about your account activity if needed. We only ask for information that helps the process work smoothly.

How does ECS help protect my information?

We respect your privacy and only collect information needed to help buyers and ranchers connect. Eagle Crest Stockyard is not in the business of selling personal information.

Am I required to buy an animal after showing interest?

No. Expressing interest starts the conversation, but you are not required to purchase animals. We encourage buyers and ranchers to communicate clearly and honestly.

Can I ask questions before deciding?

Absolutely. We encourage buyers to ask questions about the animals, their care, pickup, availability, or anything else that helps them make a good decision.

I’m new to livestock. Can I still contact a rancher?

Absolutely. Many buyers are learning or purchasing livestock for the first time. Asking questions is part of the process, and ranchers can help you understand what may be a good fit for your needs.

What if the animal is no longer available?

Availability can change quickly. If a listing is no longer available, the rancher may already have committed the animal elsewhere. We encourage buyers to check back often as new livestock listings are added.

Where do pickup and final arrangements happen?

Pickup locations, timing, and similar final details are worked out directly between the buyer and seller. Since ranchers know their animals and schedules best, they remain in control of final arrangements.

For Ranchers

Do ranchers stay in control of pricing and arrangements?

Yes. Ranchers remain in control of pricing, availability, communication, pickup, and final arrangements. ECS simply helps connect ranchers with interested local buyers.

Who contacts the buyer?

The rancher contacts the buyer directly after interest is shown in a listing.

Does ECS replace how ranchers normally sell livestock?

No. Eagle Crest Stockyard is simply another way to connect with local buyers. Ranchers remain free to sell livestock however they choose.

Can ranchers update or remove listings?

Yes. Listings can be updated or removed as availability changes.
